Peace and Security at a Crossroads

Introduction

Europe is confronting a rapidly deteriorating security landscape. Debates over the future of European security, strategic autonomy, nuclear weapons and other evolving risks are becoming increasingly urgent. In this context, the Student Young Pugwash (SYP) network has created a forward-looking, policy-relevant dialogue on the challenges shaping Europe's future. Our aim is to put the next generation of European decision-makers at the centre of the conversation. We hope you will join us at the inaugural European SYP Conference (EuSYPC)!

Key Information

The conference will be held at the University of Pisa, Italy, from 25-27 September 2026. Directions can be found here.
The conference will feature a series of keynote and plenary sessions, panel discussions, and working groups, providing a space for participants to engage with experts in the field of peace and security. Programme details can be found here.
The conference is free to attend but registration is mandatory. Please register for the conference by visiting the Registration page.

Whilst all are welcome, the conference is primarily for 18 - 35 year olds. Limited spaces are available, so we will prioritise attendance by younger people.
The conference will be run according to the Chatham House Rule. It will be an in-person event only.

About Student Young Pugwash (SYP)

SYP is an international network of students and young professionals who are committed to promoting peace, security, and social justice. The organization provides a platform for young people to engage in dialogue, research, and advocacy on these issues, with a focus on the ethical implications of science and technology. In spring 2026 a pan-European Organising Committee was established to coordinate this inaugural conference. The Committee, comprising 15-20 young professionals, includes members of UNIPI, USPID, SYP Italy, SYP UK, SYP Germany, SYP France, SYP Spain, and International SYP, embodying a collaborative effort across the leading European branches of the SYP network.
